Lambretta Sx200
An Sx200 'look-a-like' from Essex
Running in, please laugh!

I'd like a real Sx200 but...

Perhaps I should have waited and found a real Sx200 and shelled out a few more thousand but... would I have locked it away in the garage instead of riding it on a regular basis as I intended to do? Dunno and probably never will know because I decided on getting an Li150 frame and having it built as an Sx200.

Birtoni Scooters of Colchester did the job on the basis of a telephone conversation with the owner, Tony Wright. I knew nothing except what I wanted and he knew everything but took the time to talk me through the options without talking down to me. I told him I was coming over to spec out the scooter and pay a deposit. Which I did in mid February 2008.

The idea was, being a manic Chelsea fan, that it would be in their blue and white colours except that I wanted a predominantly white scooter so it would be in the Chelsea third kit of blue on white.Simple really. I could have found out the exact Pantone reference number for the Chelsea blue but didn't instead opting for a metalic blue that looked close enough. In the flesh its a bit lighter but a blind man would be pleased to see the difference.

Basically this a slide show of the scooter build from the pictures that Birtoni sent me over during the weeks they were restoring it.

Painting and getting the parts back from the paint shop seemd to take forever but thereafter the scooter seemd to come together very quickly.

25 April 2008
All finished, registered, MOT'd and insured the scooter was ready to be picked up. Drove over in hired van - 260 mile round trip. Puncture as we got home.

These are short videos taken of my first very wobbly rides up and down the yard at Birtoni's

  1 June 2008
Two months in and 1000+ miles covered. Been a regular at Maidenhead Phoenix SC and been on several local ride outs including the Great London Ride Out on 1 June at Regents Park - see video on left. No rallies yet - can't seem to get organised.

15 June 2008 - Girls on Film
The Maidenhead Advertiser ran a piece on the scooter scene and filmed the club meeting and interviewed a few of the members.

I didn't figure in any of the pics they used on account of not having a club polo shirt on. Fair enough.

20 July 2008
A big meeting at the Bear in Maidenhead and I went on the Li150 purchased the previous day. 35 scooters there all set for a ride to Eton. I decided to film them all leaving and then play catch up... except that the Li conked out 200 yards from the pub.

An hour later and a new CDI unit fitted and I was back on the road thanks to Mike, Ron, Iain & Bob who rode back from Windsor.

25-27 July 2008 - LCGB Rally at Shipston-on-Stour.
First rally and the weather was brilliant. My tent was crap and the snoring from Iain and Keith was county standard at a minimum.
